Member Biography Russell H.T. King, MD
In October 1987, he became the Liberal MLA for the provincial riding of Fredericton South and was re-elected in 1991 and 1995. He served as minister of Advanced Education and Training from 1987 to 1991. From 1991 until leaving public life in 1998, he was Minister of Health and Community Services. Dr. King has served on numerous cabinet committees including Policy and Priorities, Board of Management and Social Policy Committees. For a time, he co-chaired the Federal Provincial Committee of Ministers which drafted the Social Union Agreement. He is past chairman of the Ministers of Health of Canada and had a particular interest in the creation of the Canadian Blood Service. Dr. King is currently a practicing family physician in Fredericton, N.B. Since 2006, he has been chairman of the Portage Atlantic which is a treatment program for youth 14-21 years who suffer from severe drug and substance abuse |
