EDUCATION and PROFESSIONAL TRAINING:
PhD & M.A. in Organizational/Social Psychology (SUNY at Buffalo); MA (Alberta); BA, BSc (Otago, New Zealand); Diploma of Teaching (Dunedin, New Zealand); NTL (National Training Laboratories) consultant training (GSPDP, 40 days over a 2 year period).
ORGANIZATIONAL APPLIED RESEARCH AND CONSULTING:
At Metrics@Work I oversee the primary competencies of our organization, which are survey work, human resource management assessments, data-mining, and consulting work carried out by the 7 full-time staff, a number of Associates, and several part-time staff of the company. At the Brock University, Workplace Health Research Laboratory (WHRL) as the Managing Director, I am currently directing the academic development, management, and use of a Strategic Human Resource Management database, which is continuously populated with new data flowing from Metrics@Work. The scope of work involved in these roles include the development and application of several applied research measurement tools capturing: employee feedback on workplace systems and management elements; health management practices within work organizations; health cost drivers impacting workplace costs and productivity; and workplace and human productivity measures, and data mining Human Resource Management elements of work organizations.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE AND PUBLICATIONS:
Organizational Consulting: Since 1982, Dr. John Yardley has developed and organized short training sessions and consulted with a wide range of private and public, professional, and volunteer organizations. Most recently (1999-2007) he has directed WHRL operations, now transferred to Metrics@Work, that have resulted, to date, in over 185 public and private organizations being surveyed with Employee Feedback System surveys (©EFS, ©HWES and custom surveys) using state-of-art web-delivered or scannable surveys, which result in a series of reports, presentations, and action planning sessions with those work organizations. Metrics@Work is currently supporting four additional tools ©HealthMap Assessment (human resource management assessment tool), ©HealthEvidence (workplace health cost assessment tool), a B2B Customer Satisfaction Survey (©CSS) and in conjunction with the Ontario Hospital Association WHRL has jointly developed the OHA Healthy Hospital Employee Survey (OHA ©HHES), which since 2002 has been successfully delivered to over 35 hospitals.
Publications: Includes 25 academic and professional articles (e.g., Journal of Organizational Behaviour, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Journal of Park and Recreation Administration, Social Indicators Research), 1 book chapter (Wellness in the Workplace), 350+ ©EFS Reports, and 18 technical research reports.
