Hugh Paton is Senior Benefits Consultant with Aliant Inc. A Dalhousie University Commerce and Law graduate, he began his human resources career in 1992 as a pension legal consultant, and moved to Toronto in 1994 to pursue group consulting. In 1998 he relocated to Prince Edward Island, and in 2001 moved ‘in-house’ to Aliant where his responsibilities have included compensation, group benefits, and other employee and retiree programs. Hugh has led the implementation of a new flexible benefits program for Aliant’s 9,000 employees, replacing the previous benefit plans existing under its predecessor companies. As a lawyer, Hugh has a strong knowledge of legal and tax issues affecting benefits plans. He is also a member of the Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute and World at Work.
